Tuning with 93 & Long Tubes

Should I tune my car when I get longtubes? I'm going with no-emissions hook ups so I'm pulling out the AIR pump and blocking off the EGR valve and plan on running either an ORP or gutted Cat with ghetto cat-back.

Also do I need to get heated O2 sensors? That's what I've heard a few people talk about when I get LT's.

I have a 93 so tuning has to be done by chips (not cheap) is it worth it? Thanks

Alex

The only tuning I did was get a AFPR and my car loved it! I bet it picked up another 10hp to the ground with it! A chip is not needed. Some cars need the heated O2s and some dont. The best way is to get an old laptop and scan your car. I use the TTS datamaster. It will show you if your car is going into closed loop.

EDIT: still have single wire O2s and stock chip.

I don't have heated o2s on my car. I also didn't change the chip when I put my true duels on.

As stated earlier AFPR is the way to go. I picked up 10 rwhp and 17rwtq on the dyno

Tuning

I've got longtubes and a few other mods, (see sig). I would recommend PCMForless Tuning if you can afford the 100$ or so. At the very least he can kill the SES that I believe you'll get after removing the EGR, unless you leave the solenoid. Removing the Air pump may give you an SES as well. Both codes won't affect peformance but if you have a constant SES you won't know if something else has set a code that could be important.

I did heated O2 sensors because I have an O2 volt metre on my dash and I wanted accurate #s.

You don't need a chip.

Heated O2

Grip, did you get either a performance or driveability improvements with heated O2s? (Bogarting Thread, Sorry)

I would say better drivability...but not very noticable.

The performance should theoretically have improved if you are getting more accurate O2 sensor volt #s to use to adjust the fuel psi.

But I never measured before and after. I'd say its definately not a big diff.
