True Duals or Y-Pipe?

Ok, well I'm doing my exhaust system for the 3rd time now. The first two were just to get the car back on the road. Now I have the tools and the experience to do it right.

What's everyone's opinion on true duals or y-pipes? What's going to get me the most power and torque? I was under the impression that true duals should out perform a y-pipe, but lately I've heard that true duals will have less low-end torque and may not be as good as rumored to be.

True duals may make less power when on a stock car but I doubt that its that much. But true duals are cheaper than a catback let alone a y-pipe and a catback and sound great. So its up to you.

My vote is for true duals, for all the reasons stated above(as long as you don't try to go over the axles. It will be louder than a y-pipe I'm pretty sure. I wouldn't change anything about how my car sounds, except maybe a lopey idle in the near future.

Re: True Duals or Y-Pipe?

I have had 9 different exhaust set up on my car. I most with the LT4 stuff on it so I think it is a decent comparison....

I have run BBK shorties/y-pipe and LTs/duals, I have not picked up any noticable MPH in the 1/8th or 1/4. Given my set up, LT4 heads with larger valves and bowl work and the HOT cam I dont think exhaust is the key. I would think a motor moving more air might benefit from the LTs and duals but in my situation I can not see either one more advantageous at the track.

My duals have an H-pipe and Aero chambers dumping at the axle right now. Not bad on the road but at idle it is loud! I have had the same set up with bullets and you would not believe the sound, way too loud!! I have also ran them under the axle and into some resonators, all of these set ups produced the same MPH at the track.

Take it as its worth, on my car no difference....and I am waiting on someone to donate dyno time and some shorties to show that Dyno numbers would be the same on my car....
