true duals-w/ or w/out cats also: x-pipe or not?
okay, stupid question. my exhaust is pretty much shot. i had my cats removed about six months ago because they were shot. i called an exhaust shop yesterday and asked about the cost of two new mufflers, tips and true dual setup on my 97 TA. he told me (as i expected) that he wouldnt do it without putting cats back on. he quoted me a price of $450 for two high flow cats, two new mufflers, true dual pipes (2.5" pipe) and tips. add $100 extra if i wanted an x-pipe put on. on the other hand, i know there is a shop that will put true duals on (w/tips and mufflers) w/out the cats. havent yet got a price on that (i would have to drive a couple hours to get there and wont really give a quote on the phone). i dont have emissions testing here in florida. so its not a real big concern of mine. however the first deal doesnt sound like a bad one. i personally am fine with running without the cats but i really dont understand the whole back pressure thing. the mufflers will be the twister ones (similar to glass pack, so inexpensive anyways). so i want to make sure that it wouldnt be a problem or if it would help performance (possible future) if i dont put cats back on. any advice?
also, x-pipe or not? would it be worth the $100?
some more info, no headers yet. i would like to do LT's but paying off the car is more of a concern to me (and that wont be for another 6-8 months).

well I like using cats, but many don't care about the air, so they go without, you don't have testing so you can get away with it. You will have more power without hem, just like if you installed a cutout, although high flow cats are so reeflowing you would never feel the difference, maybe 2-4 horsepower loss. When I had my no cat 3 inch X pipe glass pack system, I was in heaven, lots of power. The X will reduce the deciples by about 6, which is alot, and you'll like this since those glasspacks will produce lots of drone and be plenty loud, also the X will give you about 10-12 more horses over not having it. I would suggest it, for max power, it gives a great sound too.
