True Duals vs. Cat Back...

I'm looking into going to 3" true duals with an X pipe and either Magna Flows or Edelbrock 304s dumped at the axle to replace my Borla car back...Just wanted to see if anyone who has switched to true duals has any improvement at the track and/or on the dyno...

My exhaust consists of Kooks stepped 1 3/4-1 7/8 LTs, Kooks 3" Y-pipe and a Borla cat back run wide open with no plate...

I just want to see the numbers to see if this is a worthwhile mod...Thanks...I'm just trying to get a little closer to the 10s...

It's up to you if it is worth it. I'm torn between it. I know a guy that dyno'd in at 413rwhp with a brola catback w/ open plate and 417rwhp a few months later with TD's and new tune. That's like $600 total. The sound is great but bang for buck, well that's obvious.

My recent dyno was with single 3" and a very poor y-pipe on a LE2 383 Supervic. The car now has 2.5" true duals (limited by the BMR Track Pack and driveshaft loop) and will have an x-pipe put in very soon. Mine goes over the axle, but there are cutouts right before the over the axle bends. I plan to dyno with the new exhaust very soon (within 2 weeks hopefully) and I will post the difference at that time.

Thanks guys...I do like the sound of the duals, but I'm all about trying to get a little more out of my combo from the exhaust..Also looking at a higher stall and more gear...going from Vig 3600 to a 4000 and 3.73s to 3.90s or 4.10s...just doing the math...

He paid $500. It's also dumped. But it is some of the best work i've ever seen. This was done on an ls1, but i'm sure the price is about the same. I've been thinking about buying the summit universal x-pipe kit and buying 2 bullets and all the hardware. You can do this route for about $200 by doing it yourself.

I know a lot of people have problems with ground clearance with TD's especially with a lowered car, but has anyone done a setup with oval pipes such as Dr Gas pipes? I would assume you could run a 3" equivalent dual setup without the clearance loss of a round pipe setup. I would love to run a dual setup but I'm lowered and because of the clearance its not really practical. Has anyone done this and what was the cost?

The only reason you would have ground clearance issues is if its a ****ty install or you decide to use real mufflers for some reason which will kill your ground clearance. If you stick to a bullet muffler and have a good shop install it you'll be fine. And I'm more than happy with my duals with sprial flows, its not bad at all cruising, but it screams at WOT.

This is my exact setup. See my signature for vids and pics. Don't do it on a lowered car.

My duals were $350 and they are over the axle. That price includes all of the pipe, dual 2.5 in dual 2.5 out muffler and labor.

when you say have a decent shop install it, do you ever run into the problem of them turning you down because it will eliminate the cat? or do you drive it in with nothing but the headers and tell them to put it together. I have asked local shops about this and they have denied me. they say that it is illegal for them to modify an exhaust system in which doesn't have a cat (for vehicles less than 25years old). Where do you have the work done at?

I paid around $500 u.s. from one of the best shops in my town. That included two magnaflow mufflers and 3" aluminized piping. For SS expect to pay twice that.

I belive it is a universal flowmaster kit they used with bullets, so no i don't thinks it's stainless. It's really nice though.

Thats where you have to get in good with a shop, i had a shop that has done all the work on my cars gut my cat, then they put my exhaust on for real cheap.

The shop you used and the shop here are the only two I've ever seen that can run over both sides of the axle...Locally its Performance Auto Fabrication in Finksburg, MD...Anyway, its a toss up between the Magnaflows and the Edelbrock 304s...If those are the stainless 3" Magnaflows with the 4x9" case, then thats what I'm looking at...They sound good...I still would like some more concrete dyno/track comparisons...
