Question true duals quieter than cutout?!?

i currently have a cutout on my 94Z and i LOVE the sound. i have just installed my hooker LT's, and im trying to decide on an exhaust setup. it seems i can do a true dual setup with 2 bullet mufflers for a decent price. but how does this sound compare to a cutout?! cutout = no mufflers...... dual = 2 bullet mufflers. im looking for that real deep old muscle car sound to compliment my hotcam lope!!

anyone have any advice?? should i just stick with having a y-pipe made then adding a cutout?? also... what are you guys doing about not having any cats?? the thought of that is kinda bothering me. my luck i would get pulled over and get fined! but looking at any setup with LT's doesnt seem like id even be able to add a fake cat just for looks! thanks in advance for any advice!

I may be wrong, but I think you can get a custom ypipe with a cat to fit the LT'S. That's what i'm gonna attempt to do. i'm gonna run the off road ypipe until it comes time for emmisions and just get a custom y with a cat. or just find a place that just doesn't care

I have duals this year over a cutout and mufflex y from last year. The duals are quieter and actually have a sound or tone to them. I liked the way my cutout sounded but it really just sounded like noise, there was no distinctive tone about it.

I wouldn't worry about the no cats thing. You are in Florida. It is not illegal to drive with no cats if the car didn't originally come with them. I know that your car did, but what this means is that police don't pay much attention. I have NEVER heard of anyone around me getting pulled over or ticketed for noise (other then obscenely lound sound system). This is somewhat evidenced by you not being approached about your cutout. If you wanna get rid of the cats, I don't think you'll have a problem. Now if you were going open headers, or cutouts at the headers, that may be a different story. Just feel out your neighbors. They are probably the most likely to call the cops on how "loud" your car is. That is the only potential problem I can see, so just keep it cool in the neighborhood.

I just posted this suggestion on a similair thread.

I just installed Jet hot LT's on mine. I have true duals all so. I suggest using 2.5 inch pipe since your HP isn't really high. I also used FLO PRO race mufflers called Twisters 4inchs around and 17 inches long.

The shop did the x pipe by using 2 2.5 inche pipe welding each to the collectors and bending them together cutting a whole between the 2 where they touch and welding the pipes together and then running the pipes the along the drive shaft tunnel I had both race mufflers welded up and dropped the exhaust right before the rearend.

With the x pipes and these mufflers the car idles really quite and sounds kinda like stock ( but alittle louder ) but if you get on it. The car wakes up and WOW sounds just like a beast.

Ask KMOOK on here he has pics of his done this way. I did mine the same way but he went out and bought an x pipe but if your shop is good they can make one.

The whole install labor, mufflers everything cost me 250.

check out KMOOKs pics you'll like them
