True duals are on!

Hey Ill have pics and some before and after video clips once I get them all... by the way the car was run with open longtubes daily driven for over a year The setup is as follows... 3" pipe up to 3" high flow cats then into 3" x-pipe tappered down to a 2.5"x24" with 2.5" inner baffles sweet thunder chambered muffler a few inches after the x pipe and continuing the 2.5" under the axle and out the back with stainless oval tips. It is pretty smooth and mellow sounding, moderately noisy, not loud but not totally quiet. Only problem is to put a cat that large on the drivers side it had to hange really low to the ground and scrapes on everything I might ask them when I go back for my 3 day checkup to try and shove it up some more and screw not tapping the floorpan and do something to keep it raised, may not be possible but I will try. BTW if you are in the dallas area the place was jerrys mufflers they do suspension and brakes too, pretty cool guys, neat dune buggy thing they are building in there too

Cool, man. I just got done with mine about 2 weeks ago or so. I'm impressed with the power gain, but really, really hate the sound of the Dynomax bullets. I'll be looking for something else very soon, I suspect.

Cool man, I'm looking forward to the sound clip.

BigEvil, you might want to try some Flowmaster one chamber race mufflers. They sound really good on true duals.

Re: True duals are on!

yeah Ill post the open longtubes video first and the true duals later since I dont have video of it.... From the interior anyways it sounds like a mix between a ferrari race car and a c5 vette.... kind of hard to describe but unique for sure. I think the cats made it sound that way along with the x-pipe and the sweet thunders do add some rumble to it but its a very mellow smooth sounding system... Meh Ill do an in car and out of car vid when I get a chance so you guys can find out... BTW the cat has maybe 2" if that of clearance from the pavement and drags everything which is the only thing that sucks. Its exactly the right decible level I was looking for after dealing with what I had before for so long. I love it and I will get over to my friends and see if I can put to a link or something tonight but dont hold your breath.

Just curious why you kept the cat on there ? Here in Waco if you take it to the right place you can still get it inspected. Is it a problem in your area ?

Re: True duals are on!

I put cats on because yes dallas has emmissions testing and as an inspector I can say most people dont realize just how deep of **** they are getting into. Just for asking you can get in trouble if you are reported and people do report. A few other inspectors from our company went to jail for YEARS for illegal inspections and I dont want to know how much the people with the stickers got fined, but my guess would be many thousands of dollars. If you are caught driving with out cats you can get a HUGE fine and again Im not talking hundreds, but thousands. Where I work a real bitch of a DPS lady comes and looks at the machines to make sure there are no missing stickers and everything is being run correctly along with looking over each of our cars. I was almost ticketed but I had been in an accident and told her Im saving up to put the exhaust on that was torn off in the wreck, I also had to get the limo tint taken off and put 35% on. So enough jabbering yeah I would rather not have them but honestly I dont notice a power difference and with a bolton lt1 two 3" high flow cats probably are as restrictive as 2 stock MAF sensors, basically not at all so meh... and Im gonna need someone I can mail the videos and pics too so they can host them for me...

Re: True duals are on!

I'm thinking of doing true duals on my 97Z. Is there a "kit" that is available that would bolt up or weld up to headers or is everything have to be custom fabricated by a local exhaust shop?

Thanks,
Anthony

ive never been a fan of off-the-shelf exhaust systems. see if you can't have something fabbed at your local muffler shop. if you dont, check out lanes true duals...youll pay for em, but they;re more than decent...
