Thumbs up true duals

i plan on having it done. but i was wondering how much it costs those of you who have the setup, for parts and labor... also if in fla, where did ya go. and what kind of clearance do yall have? hpipe or xpipe? just basic questions... thanks for any feedback...

Actually it is cheaper than a catback system which I see you need one. Not to many people have headers with stock exhaust so you really need one to help those headers out. Most people are running x-pipes on here put that is up to you since they both perform the same. Here is what mine cost.

Custom x-pipe $140
Mufflers $70
installation of remaning pipe, x-pipe, and mufflers was $110
So the total with parts and labor was $320
The reaming pipe cost was included with the labor since it was just a few pieces of pipe that didnt cost that much. The mufflers are Bullets that can be bought out of summitracing for $35 dollars a piece. Also most peoples dump at the axle since it is costly to run over the axle and out the back. Just leave the stock muffler and tips hanging back there if you want the look of a full exhaust like I did. Clearance is not that bad just be careful and drive slow over bumps. If you are lowered then that is another problem.
I love my duals and would never to anything else with the exhaust.

that sounds good to me... and ive heard tru duals compared to catbacks and the sound is so much better in my mind with the duals. plus i here performance is better. whatever the case may be, its the route i wanna go... so thanks for all the input. oh and has anyone else done the duals with something besides the bullets.... like with flowmaster 1 chambers, or some off brand like twister pro flow mufflers?

for those of you with tru duals but with the pipes over the rear axle... how much did it cost ya.... or should i say how much more did it cost you than it would have if you just dumped it before the axle? any pics of cars besides that red transam, that have it over the axle? thanks.

I've done it myself.. twice now

The first time around I used an x (made from two elbows).. this time I'm using an H. Mufflers are good but I'm not using any at the moment.. just a resonator I made here at home in one side.. the other runs wide open. They turn out toward the outside just before the rear wheels in the little hole behind the rear seat buckets. I'm using 3" though I hear a lot of people use 2.5 inch.. I guess it depends on what you want and how much you plan on modding the car. Clearance (this time around) rocks.. the lowest point on the car is the collector flanges on the Hooker LT's (they will scrape on a tall speed bump esp. if you're speeding over it). I wouldn't reccomend a lowered car do this.. not b/c of the true duals but b/c of the LT's. I hear you can get both sides up and over the axle but I think you'll need to notch and reinforce the upper panhard bar brace on the drivers side.. I think people do that with 2.5" so I dunno if a 3" would fit even if you did notch the brace. That entails more work and complex bends and I imagine it would cost a fortune for an exhaust shop to do it.. you'll have to find someplace that does custom work b/c midas won't want to try it. Just buying the 3" pipe alone is super expensive.. I dunno how much it would cost to have someone else do the welding. If you take it to a shop they'll likely have to install cats as they can be fined big time for touching a non emission complient car even here in FL (no emission testing). High flow cats cost big money also (you'll need two)... that alone was reason enough for me to do it at home without cats.

Here's an idea I've tossed around a bit..
The exhaust gas contracts as it cools and travels down the pipe.. thus it requires less area... You could try doing both sides in 3" with a 2.5" H (this is what I've done) then bring the pass side 3" over the axle like usual and taper the other side down to 2.5" just before the axle so it'll fit. I think that would not be much of a restiction and would certainly flow as good as a single 4" (mufflex). Just some ideas..

The biggest problems I saw with over the axle was the cost factor and the weight factor.. a few extra feet of that 3" pipe would add up quickly. Personally, I like the car with no tips.. looks clean and people may be dumb enough to think it's a six until they hear that beast start

Good luck with it.. shoot me an email if you've got any questions
