True Duals + [2 mufflers]?? choices inside..

Ok I am about ready to decide on the mufflers I want to use for true duals.

We all know that bullets are too loud, I dont care what anyone says, it just would be too much.

I have narrowed it down to either:
1) Dynomax Ultra Flo Welded Mufflers
2) Flowmaster 1-chamber
3) Spintech Sportsman

All 3 are very compact, and are going to be dumped at angles at the rear. They are somewhat close in price too, with the ultra flo's being the cheapest.
****I am still hung up on dual 3" pipe or dual 2.5" as well....*shrug* suggestions?

Please help me out with which one might be better. And to clarify: ultra flo dynomax welded is indeed different from it's brother the ultra flo SS, which is much longer and quieter.
furthermore, flowmasters are considered to ironically flow horribly...well are the 1-chambers any different? I would assume that they would have to be better or no?

Thanks guys, remember, no bullets or anything that will cause noise problems, although loud is definitely good!!!

I hear that the Dynomax bullets are great for duals.....thats also what I will be going with when I get everything rounded up for the header install.

2.5" is much easier to install and will give better ground clearance. If you decide you want to do some wacky stuff and push out say... 500rwhp rwhp or way more, you can always switch to 3" true duals.

There is a guy with a video (red trans am, i cant recall who it is and I cant recall his setup, but i found it on a search for true duals). His TA with true duals was amazingly quiet at idle.

I'd get some Borla XS mufflers. Thats what I'm running. They were rated the quietest muffler with the best performance by 5.0 a year or so ago. They are a straight through design, with offset sides, plus they are stainless. They sound great in my opinion. I will be getting some sound clips soon, as not many people are running these, but I bet they would switch once they heard them. I had bullets and they were ridiculously loud. WAY overkill.

ok we are getting somewhere, buts lets try this again---Dynomax bullets are truly too loud. SS71, sorry, you need to reread what I already said.

Next, what about the 3 options I already have listed? Anyone with experience or sound clips with these? The Flowmaster 1-chambers I located are amazingly small, and would probably sound wicked with dumps.

Borla being stainless is most likely more $ than what I want to spend on just mufflers, however I dont you at all that they sound great.

I also want to clarify, I want this thing to be loud. Real loud, just not "Bullet-loud"...I also dont want the excessive interior noise from the bullets.

So dual 3" exhaust is TOO BIG for a head/cam formula? anyone else have any thoughts???

I don't think dual 3" is too big for a stock/mild car. It might be a bit overkill but I think that the slight bit you loose while the car is stock head/cam will be regained when you do the heads/cam. Here is my take on it - 2.5" might be SUFFICIENT for 500 RWHP, but it is easier with 3". I've seen guys go 9.7s in a mustang with stock displacement, stock cam, shorty headers, and a dry kit. Is it the EASIEST way to do it? No way.

One thing though - are you going over the axle with your exhaust? I've thought about doing that eventually, and if I do, it will be 3" transitioning to a 2.5" over axle setup. I know Mindgame has his setup that way, and he said that the exhaust diameter is less of a restriction the further away it is from the motor, so, its pretty much up to you for which size to go with.

With that being said, I still recommend the Borla. They aren't $30 mufflers tho. I thought they were expensive at $95 a piece, but my friend talked me into them, and I've never regretted it!

The more I read, the more I am actually swayed towards the Flowmaster 1-chamber 10 series mufflers. They are only 6" and 9lbs...hmm

but honestly, everyone says flowmaster is the chokemaster, and this may be true on their 40 series or something, but 1 chambers are pretty basic and are sooo small. I think this is the sound I am going for. They are $60 a piece.

Nope, dumps, over the axle is something I will do if turndowns end up causing me headaches.

dynomax ultra flos are literally the best flowing i think, but i am not sure if their sound is exactly what i am looking for...

Does anyone have a picture of these mufflers in real life? The summit picture doesn't give you a good representation. I'm worried about ground clearance.

I'm running a pair of "proflo twister" mufflers on my car. It sounds pretty wicked IMO. Really not even like an LT1.. A little more "racey", if that makes any sense.

Ah well.. All my friends can tell it's me when I pull into a parking lot.. LOL .. Hrmm.. Is that a good thing? LOL

The Flowmaster 10 series are way too loud. Probably as loud
or louder than bullets. Go with the Ultraflow welded.

here is a pic of a 10 series

well looks like itll just have to be that loud then, there doesnt seem to be anyway around it. if the decibel level is the same, i think the flowmasters may at least sound more like a true muscle car rather than just open headers, does this make sense? i have been listening to a ton of soundclips, most from mustangs, and these things sound brutal.

do this: go to www.ls1sounds.com, then go to "true duals" then click on the first 2 listings. this guy's camaro sounds awesome. it would be almost identical to my setup. i know of course its an ls1, and i am lt1, but you get the hint

also these 10 series are sooo small, i would hope clearance would not be an issue, its basically a bullet just fatter?? i dont see how it could be a problem at all

thanks guys, also i am still hung up on 2.5" vs. 3" pipe, which is louder, which is more hp, if any at all??????
