Trouble shifting into 2nd gear in my t56

I have had this trouble for a couple of months. Anyway, it just feels like a rough engagement when I shift into 2nd gear. Kind of like you go through two notches to get into 2nd instead of one.

THis happens shifting at normal driving speeds, even worse when shifting at slower speeds. My sister drove it, and she is not a manual driver,so but she said it was like shifting into two gears also

I can be sitting still, and just be changing it from 1st to 2nd or from 3rd to 2nd and sometimes (very rarely) it will catch on something and I have to go back to neutral and then back to 2nd to get it in there.

Is there something wrong with my tranny? OR is this a common thing? I imigine, when drag racing, it gets slammed into 2nd pretty hard, in fact I know I do that, just kind of a reaction I guess.

Thanks for any help

Jason

It is very rare that it wont shift into 2nd , and it only happens if I am sitting still and shifting it into 2nd real slow like. Glad to know someone else has the same problem. Hopefully someone will shed some light on this for us

Mine does basically the same thing going into 3rd. Im pretty sure it my syncro for 3rd gear. Im pretty sure its not a problem with the T56 or else you would have the problem in all gears, but I may be wrong. Do a search on the board and look in both LS1 and LT1, both have the T56, maby that will give you some answers. Good luck

Tried that, but wasnt too sure what to search for, weather it be "trouble shifting into 2nd" or "rough engagement into 2nd" I will search some more today. I was at home on my slow dial up yesterday when I searched before I posted.

So it could be a damaged syncro? Will this get worse over time, or will it just be a little hard to get into gear? Now its not hard shifting its just that added little clunk I was worried about. As long is that is the only thing to worry about, then I can live with it. But if it means that it will prevent me from shifting into 2nd eventaully then I would be concerned. I still have ext warranty for a little bit, so if it needs to be fixed I will hold off putting my shifter in, instead of them saying its the shifter causing it
