Angry Trouble removing water pump

My water pump went out on me today in the driveway, its been acting up and I think took its last drive last night, things got a little sketchy. Anyway, I went and bought a new water pump thinking it'd only be a few hour fix and i'd be on my way, I was wrong. I removed all of the bolts holding it in, removed all hoses, removed all electrical ect. and STILL it will not come out. Facing the motor, the left side will come off about 2-3 inches, but the right will barely budge. I've spent 6 hours working on this today/tonight and i've had it for now. Does anyone have any idea what I could do??? I've tried everything, it seems to be magically attached.

did you take out all 6 bolts, and keep in mind that the middle bolt on the right side is going to be a NUT and a BOLT.

Yes, they are all out, and as to what you said, what would be a good way to get that out? I dont want to damage the threads...

Confusing...you say all the bolts are out, yet you seem to say you are still needing to remove one...

The one that is a stud on the LH outside, middle can be removed with a deep socket or even a wrench, if there is enough room. The AIR pump and bracket has to come off first.

Air Pump?? I thought it was the Power steering Pump that had to come off to get that off?? Or do I not have to do that B/C I dont have the smog pump??

For the one on the left side with the stud I just replaced it with a standard bolt and can now get it off without taking off the power steering pump.

The power steering pump does not have to come off regardless. If you don't have the AIR pump anymore, there should be no problem accessing the 6 bolts that hold the pump to the block.

Yeah, you don't have to touch the p/s pump and that side has no stud, anyway.

Note that I said the stud was on the LH (driver's) side where the AIR pump is.

If the Vette pump is the same as yours, there are two dowel pins in the block that help guide the water pump into postion as it's installed. Could be that you're cocking the pump at such an angle that one of the dowel pins is binding, preventing the pump from coming off.

Are you pulling it straight and not an an angle?

My recent problem was with installing the pump on my son's 96 LT1. One of the dowel pin holes in the pump was just a hair too small in diameter preventing the pump from sliding into place. I honed it out a very tiny bit and that's all it took. Probably a build up of paint in the hole since he spray painted the pump.

the AIR pump bracket is the thing keeping the water pump from coming out... RH side of the waterpump (when looking into the engine bay).
