Trick Flow Heads+ECT

Hey guys, I have a problem with my trick flow heads, there is a 1/2" hole for the ECT sensor for the gauge in the dash, I got the adapter, it 1/2" to 5/8 or 18 thread. The ECT sensor will thread maybe 1/4 of a turn, we got out the thread gauge and it measures 18 UNC, Is that the correct thread count, am I missing something here. Has anyone else run into this problem? All help is appreciated.

Yeah I have run into that ordeal as well. The threads are a taperd pipe thread so you have to retap them and the thing should thread in if I recall correctly.

I don't know why TFS does this to the heads, seems like a bonehead manuver to me.

so i just tap the adpater with a 5/8 NPT tap? are the threads in the adpater tapered or is it the sensor. I don't have my heads with me right now so I can't take a look. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Trick Flow Heads+ECT

The adapter should be National.Pipe.Thread or*NPT*. The sensor hole on the head should also be NPT. You can tap the hole on the head up to the 5/8" that you need for your sensor, or if you're worried about damaging your head, you can tap the adapter from the NPT to the thread you need.

Just make sure your tap matches your sensors threads. Easiest way to check is to lay the threads on the tap on top of the threads on your sensor.. If they come together and fit inside one another, then you are good to go.

There are Tappered thread NPT and straight thread NPT. Usually the issue is, that the tapper doesn't go in far enough for what you are doing so you have to run the tap into the adaptor a little farther to make everything match correctly.

Re: Trick Flow Heads+ECT

Go to an industrial hyd shop and GET the correct fitting with the NPT threads on it.
Take a sample so the guys there know what ya are trying to do. Take the sender from the head and the sender ya want to put in and they can probably get ya fixed up for under 5 dollars and ya don't have to buy any taps, drill bits.etc.
