Transmission problems...Advice???
I have a 97 Z with 76,000 on the clock. Last few months i've noticed a decent leak from the front of the 4l60e transmission. Dropped it off at the tranny shop this morning and just got the call.
"Its leaking from the front pump area. When that happens, normally its a high risk to go in from the front and just fix the leak due to the potential of disturbing other components which could then cause other problems resulting in a tranny that no longer runs as it should. We recommend a rebuilt in this case. $1,300 and 3 days."
What do you guys think? do it? Check with a different shop? any more questions I need to ask? I'm pretty good with cars but know less about an auto tranny than anything.

I'm not an expert on auto tranny's either, but when my front seal went out it was because the pump was going out. Hopefully you caught it soon enough that you won't have all the problems that I did. I had to replace the pump, the TC and rebuild the tranny. Depending on what they plan to replace when they rebuild the price seems kinda high for a basic rebuild. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Thats what they said, the pump may be the problem and accessing it disturbes to many other things and its to deep into the tranny to not just rebuild the whole thing.
So I guess that means you have to "dig in" to find out if in fact the pump is the problem??? And, when you go that far you might as well go all the way.
