Transmission Case Pin Holes Elongated???
I have a 1997 Z28 with 76000 miles and a decent leak coming from the front of the transmission. One of the shops I took it to said its leaking from the pump and they would be "concerned" if they just fixed the leak that they "might" disturb enough other components getting to the pump that it may not shift right afterwards. Therefore, they just want to rebuild it completely for $1300.
A guy told me this was BS and I should just tell them to check the case to see if the pin holes were elongated and while the trans is out of the car have a teflon seal and new bushing installed. Also, if the holes did just happen to be elongated, install extra long pins to reach farther into the holes where they would not be elongated.
Does this make sense? Was he just telling me to say this to get them to pull the trans just as a way to get the seal and bushing changed? I know a good deal about cars just not much about auto trans. I'd appreciate hearing what you who know think.
Thanks
