Tranny tech

man I wish we had a forum for this...

Anyway:

I had my trans completely rebuilt. I watched the guy do it even. Also installed was a transgo shift kit. All three spacers were used.

I expected this thing to give me neck snapping shifts. It didn't.

1 to 2 was prompt, but not snappy. 2 to 3 was even less snappy.

The trans guy said it didn't make sense to put all that spring pressure on the cup because hydrualic pressure has to overcome them and it will make the shifts softer. Another guy I talked to said the same thing. In fact he said they usually put the cup in upside down, and use no springs, and the car will break your neck on the shifts.

I tried that and it made no difference. Any thoughts?

the guy i bought my tranny from said that happened once.. cause it shifted so firm the first time...

i dunno if that would retard the strength of the following shifts tho...

Im not too sure but Ive gone through 5 trannies with the trans- go in it and 2 of them ( we found out later) was because he didnt put the springs in (to make it shift firmer). Im not sure exactly what it did but if i remember right it was causing severe quick wear on the 2-3 clutches, or maybe that was because the wide band he used. Im not sure but the springs were a cause of 2 trannies. I would check the line pressure though. If its low the shifts wont be firm. Just by moving up the pressures it made the sucker shift hard enough to turn the car sideways on 1-2 shift when before it would only bark em.
