Tranny out??? need help!!
I need your guyz help on this one.... i was just driving my 1994

2nd and skipped overdrive....well i made a left turn and as i gave it more gas it downshifted but then it made a grinding noise for about 5seconds and then the car continued but it would not move as much and the abs inop light came on...i tried messing with it and it slips and barely moves...i think i need a new tranny...what is the best inexpensive repair in this situation???..can anyone help??..i live in the san fernando valley and i dont know what mechanic i can trust with this tranny problem...I would really appreciate your comments...thanks!

Auto trannies are always tuff when they have problems, not near enough of us that understand em.
I would take it somewhere and have them look at it and tell you what is wrong, it might be something simple but you need a decent repair shop to tell you that, most just wanna make as much off of you as they can.
If it turns out you need a rebuild you can save yourself some cash by removing the tranny yourself and reinstalling it.
I checked around when my tranny went and got estimates from 1200 to 2000 dollars and I was like damn that is alot of dough.
I ended up pulling the tranny myself and had a reputable repair shop do a performance rebuild for 750 without a coverter.

Thanks a lot REV....I took my car to a transmission shop and found
that the plates were worn out along with the clutches and springs and some forks which was preventing it to start in 1st gear and shift into overdrive....i am getting my tranny rebuilt and installing a B & M shift Kit for 1350 total...damn... for my budget, i think i need more overtime and look for a part time job too....

i am a mechanic that explains my spelling
from experiance on my own car (14 busted tranys)
the guy who FIXED mine had a hardend steel pump and vains and pump drive built at a machine shop and cranked the line pressur up to 280lbs at idle and 300+ at wide open throttle (my gage stops at 300) and also had a vacume modulator put on it i dont know were he got it from but it works and he built a shift kit for it also that helps it put it in gear quik none of that slipping clutches crap and i would definitly call another shop becouse the a4 has no springs or forks in it
he may have said sprags (one way clutch thet allows the drumms that the clutch pack rids in rotat one direction but holds it the other
1350 is a little high for central TX we average between 750 to 1000 although mine was 1500 with the extra crap i put in it

what do you mean by A4???...i have a 4l60e tranny...unless you mean an automatic 4speed...as far as i know the mechanic was going to rebuild the tranny with an overhaul kit and the sprag...but not too sure about the modulator....Aamco wanted
2k to 2.5k for the rebuild.....
