Im a new member, and really glad I found this site. Is this heaven?

I recently experienced problems with my 4l60e tranny. My car begins to redline when shifting into 3rd gear. It seemed to be my 2-3 shift solenoid. I took the pan off to change the solenoid, and I noticed that the 1-2 solenoid was firmly in place, but the 2-3 solenoid was loose. Not the wires, just where it plugs into the transmission. I pulled the 1-2 out and saw a rod that was pushing out, like it has a spring behind it. However, my 2-3 solenoid rod was backed in, not popping back out like in the 2-3. What is this rod? Is this normal or is this is whats causing my car not to shift?
