Tranny acting strange

Please don't move to Drivetrain Forum. Posted there several days ago with no responses.

Drove to Walmart and the tranny acted fine. Come out and it won't engage R or N. 1st gear acts like it's slipping horribly and when it finally unwillingly shifts to 2nd it all acts normal as well as the rest of the gears. Car needs massive throttle input to start moving and vibrates horribly in first. Just getting some outside opinions on what's wrong.

Just went out and played around with it a little bit and the car moves forward under power when it's in Neutral! I'm starting to think it may be a linkage issue, hopefully anyways.

Yeah my 85 iroc did the same thing (almost) until it finally broke and was stuck in park unless I crawled under the car and moved the lever by hand which was kinda scary. It was an easy fix though.

Sounds like my stretched shifter cable....backed out of my parking spot at the mall and it broke....in the middle of the aisle in reverse in the rain. Had to crawl under my car and move it manually. Park shouldn't be park if your cable is stretched....it should be reverse.

Hopefully its just the linkage issue. I'll get out there tomorrow and check it out. I need a damn space heater in the garage. It's about 20* with snow on the ground.
