Track times - suggestions?

Hey guys. I've ran my car the last two wednesdays at sacramento raceway street legal nights. My best time so far is 14.011@99.77MPH with 2.167 60 ft. Best 60ft ever - 2.157. All on street tires. Race weight was 3750 approx.

I'm thinking by getting that 60 down into the 2.0 and lower range, she should do a 13.8x at 100.xx.

I was thinking of these things, in the following order:

Tires
Converter/tranny cooler
Gears

Then I'm going to be worrying about the 10-bolt

I was hoping I could get some suggestions on brands for the above named mods and some predicted times. What tires do you guys prefer, what's the best bang for the buck converter for my application (thinking a 3200ish stall)?

The car is in excellent tune with all maintenance being recently done. It has 160k, and was owned by an old lady who never got on it, all maintenance recorded blah blah. The mods to the rest of the car are as follows:

Descreened MAF
No cat (pipe)
Bullet muffler
Airfoil ($5 bucks, why not?)
LT4KM

Other than that, it's stock.

Also hoping maybe some of you could share your launch techniques. I cut consistant 2.1 60s by stall braking it up to about 11-1200 rpm, then letting off the brake and mashing the gas. Spun a little then moved out. I'm running Nitto 450s, did a light burnout to clean them off, nothing john forceish.

Thanks for any help guys.

If you haven't already you may want to consider replacing your opti, as it has over 160K miles on it. Thats going to cause you problems sooner or later, especially with 160K on it. Also if replacing the timing chain would be a good idea. I wouldn't have descreened my MAF thats a tad ghetto.

The stall you listed is pretty big if your going to be driving your car on the street. I recommend you get the following.

Opti
Timing chain
CAI
Cut-out
PaceSetter LT
Sparkplugs + wires
Gears 3.73s would be good
Madz28 tune

Also I would be more concerned about your transmission going out before your rear end. If thats the original 4L60E that came from the factory pretty much assume its going to break. Especially if your going to drive it hard. Replace the opti, then start saving for the rebuilds to come. I had to rebuild my tranny within 1k of owning it and I am at 130K. I am saving for a 355 right now, and I am slowly piecing together a cam set.

- EDIT: Oh yeah your track times are pretty decent for a car with that mileage. Now start saving for that tranny overhaul.

Just replaced the optispark with an entirely brand new unit (old one misfired hard) and did plugs/wires, timing set, fuel filter, tranny service, coolant flush, rear end service, fuel system flush, oil change, and topped everything off.

The MAF was descreened when I got the car.. i have no clue why as it was owned by an old lady for it's whole life except for like 2 months.. it must have been done there somewhere.

I was worried about the tranny, I'm figuring it's going to die but I can get it rebuilt to stock specs for $500, better specs for a few bills more, already saving haha.

For a converter, TCI makes a cheap unit, but a Precision Industries Vigilante is better but can cost around 700-800.00. Also, if you are going to run a high stall, then a tranny cooler is a wise investment.

As for the launch technique, I will stall it to 1100-1200 rpm like you do, but then sometimes I wont stall it at all and just mash the gas and get better results. It is a hit or miss, sometimes I get traction and sometimes I dont.

To help your 60 ft. times, maybe look into some good aftermarket suspension pieces like LCAs, a panhard rod, adjustable torque arm, struts/shocks, ect. and some good DRs like Nitto 555 or the BFGs.

Finally, some weight reduction like the front sway bar, quarter tank of gas, rear seats removed, spare tire and jack removed, ect. can easily shed a hundred pounds and help you achieve faster e.t.s for free.

Usally you don't have to much problems with those mods and 10bolts braking though autos. Look into the Mickey thompson street drag radials. Insane grip with them!! And then we'd recomend looking into doing some more power mods over gears due tot he fact you won't be loosing your crusing speed/rpm. A good CAI and exhaust would do wonders. Also look into some Roller rocker arms and valve springs, as if the stock engine some new valve springs couldn't hurt it in the upper RPM range also. Any questions please get in contact with us!!!

I ran a 13.6 on a 102 trap so you shouldn't be that mad. The mph shows you how fast the car is. Get your 60fts down to 2.0, a tenth off it should roughly be .15 off your 1/4 mile. It does come to a point of diminishing returns though but that is when your goin faster than 13.xx
