TR5 the same as TR55?

I called Advance Auto and the guy said he only has 6 TR55's and 5 TR5's in stock. He told me NGK updated the TR55's and changed them to the TR5's, but that they're the same plugs. Are they the same or is he another moron working at an auto store?

I'd check with a couple others places just to make sure.

My info:

Iridiums Stock # 7164 TR55IX 6.95
Double Plats 7862 PZTR5A-15 $11.71
GP PLATS 3404 TR55GP 2.68
V-POWER 3951 TR55 2.24

When I bought my 97SS in 97, I changed the plugs to NGK TR55VX, which are plats. I don't believe they ref those plugs to the camaro anywhere anymore.

At the time, the coppers, which conduct better, but don't last very long were plain old TR55s.

I'd go with the Iridiums at 6.95 ea, if you don't want to change your plugs often.

Don't know where the TR5 number comes from but they may very well be the new numbering system, but again, I'd double check that. JMHO

Tr-55's are wide gap (designed for approx .060 gap)
Tr-5's are smaller gap. (.040)

I would not recommend you bend the center electrode that far.
As hard as they are to change, get the correct ones instead of experimenting.

The TR-6 will work well also in a stock motor with a .040" gap. The smaller gap will be easier on the opti as well.

So do you think I should use TR6's with a smaller gap to go easier on the opti? Please let me know by tomorrow morning...

Is the TR-6 a good idea in a non nitrous motor ??

Will it be that much easier on the opti ?
