TPS sensor question.

Okay. So I'm in the process of dropping my engine to change the head gasket. In the process I decided I wanted to polish some things up too. So I take the throttle body off and disassemble it. When I took the TPS sensor off underneath it was an orange foam disc. Now I have no clue as to the point/function of the disc but I happened to lose it somewhere in the polishing process.

So my question is what is the purpose of the disc and will everything be okay if I put it back together without it?

Dunno. The book calls it a static seal. It doesn't look to be available by itself.

Thanks shoebox. Guess I'll just try using it without it. If it starts acting up looks like I'm getting a new sensor

the foam disc is just another way of keeping dirt out of the sensor. don't go mudding, and you'll be fine. gm uses the same sensor on almost every engine they have, and not all of them have the disc to start with.
