TPIS Mini-Ram

Just some searching and I have found information relating this product. However, I haven’t found many threads or posts on people using them on LTs. Is there fabricating that needs to be done to make it fit? I'm looking for an "aftermarket" intake, even though many in other threads have said that the LT1 is sufficient. I'm planning on doing a LE1 setup w/ 1 3/4 LT headers, 32# injectors, 58mm AS&M TB etc. etc. This will be an upgrade from the hotcam kit (so I already have the RA.) I'm getting larger valves in the heads and the plan for now is to send the stock cast LT1 intake manifold to get opened up for a 58mm TB and port the intake runners a little. Will that open it up enough to flow for LE1 heads? I understand its not about flow so much as "velocity".

Any facts, or even opinions, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

get a hogan if you wanna go aftermarket, the mini ram isn't worth the money.

Re: TPIS Mini-Ram

A mini ram would really benefit a Tuned Port Motor as the intake is closely resembled toa LT1 intake. TPI make awesome torque but run out of breath around 5000 RPM. I had an 87 Iroc and she was tough down low but puked out early. I never did get to do the Mini ram cause a deer took care of that car, on my way to work, on a Satruday, no less.

Re: TPIS Mini-Ram

I had Lloyd port my intake. He told me the runners are actually tapered the wrong direction. The are larger where the intake meets the head. He tapers then to be larger in the manifold and narrow down into the head to help velocity. Also from opening up the bores he grinds the obstructions down so it looks like it will flow better . He did all my work for 175 w/ shipping back to me included. Your on your own as to getting it there.

Re: TPIS Mini-Ram

I had t-tops in that car and I hit it in the *** on the passenger side as he ran across the road. I saw the deer launch over the car and watched the deer swing like a helicopter blade over the car and past the ditch. He landed in the grass somewhere. I couldn't find it, I was so pissed I think I would have finished it off with my bare hands . I know he didn't make it. There was so much blood. His head swung around and lifted my passenger fender about 3/4 of an inch. He even took the Iroc wheel cap off. Bent the radiator support, broke the radiator, shattered my air intake. I removed the screens from the MAF so I am sure I sucked junk into the motor. It barely ideled after the hit almost dying before I came to a complete stop. Spidered the paint, bad, on the front nose cap. Pushed the battery into the inner fender and folded the front edge of the hood under. cracked the back corner of the hood up almost 2 1/2 inches. It was almost like a hit in Nascar when you get to see it from inside the car. Cool, but not cool.

Re: TPIS Mini-Ram

From what I hear, the TPIS Miniram is a pretty good intake manifold. I have checked into it also but it is also fairly expensive after you buy the intake along with the fuel rails and everything. But, comparing it with a Hogan's is like comparing apples to oranges. The hogan is probably going to be twice as much as the Miniram and is far better, but you do get what you pay for. I would like to know more about the TPIS also, I have meant to call TPIS and talk to them about it but never have. I don't really think that it would be cost effective for me since I am going forced induction on my buildup but I would like to know more.

Yeah, I got pics. PM me your email and I'll send em over. Deer poop and all. They are sturdy animals.

Got to tpis.com . Check it out. I don't see much benefit to running one on an LT1 as it is almost the same design. TPI motors would benefit

Re: TPIS Mini-Ram

I sent TPIS an email today. We'll have to wait and see what they say. After being on the web page, i don't see an extra 20hp worth the almost $900 it costs. I think I'm going to go ahead and stick with the LT1 casting and let Lloyde port the runners a little bit and hook it up for a 58mm TB. Should be good enough for the set up I will be running this summer.

I was wrong, the price for the LT1 I got from them was $1200. Either way, 900 or 1200 is a little much for 10hp in my setup. I could fine somewhere else to put that money that would make a noticable differance. Even they agree. Here is the response I got:

... We offer a Mini Ram intake for the LT1, BUT for the price of the intake, and the gains you see with it, I would not say it would be worth your money on you proposed combination.

We have a mini Ram intake on a 409 LT1 in our street rod, and it works great, but on the combination that you are planning, my guess is that you will see less than 10hp at 6,000 rpm. The LT1 intake is a great intake, and its very hard to improve on, but on big cube motors with a lot of compression the mini ram will out perform the LT1 intake. I think you could see more gains by putting the 1,200.00 some where else in the car.

Re: TPIS Mini-Ram

look into the Holley Stealth Ram (HSR) or the version that SStrokerAce has done for others.

Re: TPIS Mini-Ram

At least TPIS was honest enough to tell you that and not try to sell you a $1200.00 part that would not perform well on your car.
