TPiS Longtubes

I want to swap out my SLP Shorties for longtubes with a dual cat y-pipe.
I'm not interested in Hookers or Jethots and have some pics of the FLP's

Any of you guys running the TPiS longtubes with or without the dual cat y-pipe.

How is the instalation and ground clearance etc.

I want to run with the dual cats.

Any anecdotes and observations would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think you'll find much if any horsepower gain upgrading from the SLP shorties, those things make awesome power, they are just a really good header, maybe if you have a 383 with a huge cam & heads then maybe you'll see something, besides you'll make more power with the shorties at higher RPM then you will with Longtubes, Longtubes just help out bottom end & midrange power contrary to popular belief, shorties improve top end HP, I won't go into this right now, many see increase power with longtubes at higher RPM because some shorties have very restrictive Y-pipes/collectors, those SLP's are awesome if they are the 93, 94-95 style, 96+ are just a bad header.

You will prolly see a power increase both top & bottom end with LT's on a 383 with huge cam/heads because well the LT's like FLP's still have a bigger collector then the SLP shorties, but on a normal sized setup with cam/heads the collector size on the SLP's is more then big enough for flow, now all you will be doing is increasing primary length which will sacrifice top end because of the longer primary & do nothing to your bottom end because you'll have too big of a collector for your setup which will loose TQ, but you'll gain the TQ back with the longer primary, so essentially you'll see no gain.

I have to disagree with banker on one part. Shorties improve lowend and lts mid to topend. Long Tubes really start to shine in the 35-4k rpm range. I think that if someone made a 1 5/8 lt header, they would see good lowend with decent topend improvements.

Also restricitng the shorties on some models are the flanges.
As for the longtubes I have the Hookers so I cannot comment on the TPISs.

Anyone Running the TPiS dual cat setup?
I've seen some pics of the FLPs out of the box and instaled.
The FLPs driver header is more S shaped than hookers or jethots and the collector locates much closer to the engine and has the cat right off the flange with decent ground and oil filter clearance.
I was wondering how the TPiS headers and dual cat setup compares with the FLPs.

Are you really choosing your headers based upon who sells the Y pipe you want? Good luck getting it to fit anyway, on ANY of the headers.

What is so wrong with the Hooker/Jet Hots? Get a custom dual cat Y and enjoy better ground clearance than anything premade.

I want to hear from people running TPiS Headers.
Their dual cat setup is 1050.00
There's plenty of posts on JetHots and if they do finally come out with their dualcat ypipe the package will probably cost 1000.00. Having a pipe made is an option.I've seen pics of Ion's Jet hot setup with hooker ypipe.
I've had some good feedback on the FLPs and like their ground clearance which seems to be the best of all the longtubes for our cars.
I'm not expecting the ypipe to fit effortlessly regardless of the manufacturer.
I just want to hear everyone's opinion who actually has experience with the TPiS setup so I have real information about ALL my longtube choices . (FLP, TPiS,Hooker, JetHot)I'm not interested in Dynatechs.

Does the tpis come with the cats? For a little more money, with flp you get the cats, which is a good deal IMO. The flp y-pipe will most likely require custom installation by an exhaust shop, adding to the cost FYI. I would go with the flp's, they are more of a proven setup than the tpis.
I haven't had any problems with mine btw. Plug access is difficult on a few.

Yes the TPiS comes with a dual cat ypipe for 1050.00. The headers look similar in layout to jethots but there's no pics of the cats and pipe.

That's why I'm trying to see if anyone has run these headers.

As to plug access, I have the PITA SLP Shorties. I have a great mechanic who instaled the SLP's in 5 hrs(!) so I should be ok.

I'm about to install my TPiS LT's this month. They have the best ground clearance out of any other LT on the market. I can't speak for the dual cat y-pipe, but that's what I'll be having fabricated after the LT install...

Hope this helps...
