Tourqe Converter Upgrade

I have a 97 4l60E with a good transmission and i was thinking of upgrading my stock Tourqe Converter that stalls from 1500-1600 to one that has 2000-2600, if this is to much, how high would you recommend. And what effect will this have on the 1/4?

I would go at least 3000 stall, even 3500.

There is acurrent thread on 12" vs. 9.5" you need to read that.

A 2000-2600 would be a 12" will drive sloppy(at least up toward 2600) is heavy and will heat the fluid a lot, by going a step further to a 2800 stall and getting a 9.5" you lose a lot of rotating weight(possibly in exese of 20lbs.) which pays off in a big way at the track, and drivability of a good 9.5" 2800 is better than that of a 12" 2600.

This year changes to my car include the tranny(rebuilt) and an Edge 9.5" TC, as well as stepping down to 87 octane programming from 93 octane, I am still running half a second faster and my 60ft. times are about the same as before because track prep stunk, once I get the traction dialed in it will be faster yet.

I recently got my TCI 2600-2800 in this year. I felt the difference but sometimes I wish I went with the 3.73 gears first but hey, my installation for my TCI was free!

Really a cusom built unit from Edge, Yank, Vig, ProTorque etc. is a better choice than any off the shelf unit.

I had a very bad experiance with an off the shelf TC sold by one vendor had TCI components and Art Carr claimed the serial number was theirs. It was a 2600 stall 9.5" drove like crap, built heat bad. Then I blew the tranny and when I had it cut and cleaned the shop found so many issues I cut my loses and tried the Edge. The higher stall Edge drives better with less heat. Save your money till you can get a better TC than a B&M or TCI.
