Torque and high rpm

Hi,
I have a LT1 engine form a impala SS. I have converted it from a automatic to a 5 speed.
My 1st gear can only take 300 flt of torque, but 2nd through 5th can take 350 flt of torque.
I would like to modify the engine so I don't destory 1st gear. How can I get less torque at the low end ?

Timing ?
Chip mod ?
different stroker ?
anything is helpfull
Thanks.

I assume its a transaxle, I would leave it be, the chance of you getting any traction in that first gear in what seems to be a lightweight project car is very slim.

Wasn't the 914 the 4-cyl version of the 911?

If so, 300 lb-ft capacity sounds VERY high. IMO, the LT1 will eat that trans early on in it's life. My guess is first full throttle romp in 1st gear.

I had a 164 cube Corvair behind a early 60's Bug transaxle and first gear was iffy. Imp is 2-3 times as strong.

Put the transmission in 1st and proceed to press the gas pedal to the floor hard.
