Are torque converters miracle workers?

I read that a guy 94Z ran 14.1 stock. then he said by just adding a Vig 3000 converter and he ran 13.5 . I find that hard to beleive.

If he got good traction after he put the converter in, it is certainly possible.

Late model Camaro and Firebird Automatics love torque converters (performance wise)

still lots of guys on here say if you had to choose a mod to do first it would be a tc, but i agree with you dude anywhere between 300 - 800 dollars for a good tc i dont think its worth it either

Thats not to say the gain isn't worth it, but there's other things that the money could better be spent on unless your bracket racing (jmo)

Torque converter a bad investment? LOL, its definitely the BEST investment anyone can make to their A4. I went from 14.05 bone stock to 13.35 with just a 2800 stall. Thats it. My 60' went from 2.08 to low 1.8's, high 1.7's. It woke the car up! I paid $250 for a used converter, and went nearly 7 tenths faster Try to find a better investment....

If u ever wanna leave the line quicker, its your best way to go.....leaving the line at 3 grand is better than 1500....when i had my 3000 TCI, i dropped nearly .4 off my motor pass.....when i get my new stall it will be a 3200, which will allow me to spray off the line!

What?? over rated, talking from a person that drives a manual.
I guess you have never riden in a converter car before. Tell you what, come up here to Tulsa and I would be more than happy to show you what a converter car can do!

I gained close to a second in a converter.

Thumbs up

Lets see here. I went from a 13.99 to a 13.61 when I put in a vette converter. Then I went from a 12.90 with the cam then put in a 3200 stall & ran 12.30 & gained 3-4 mph!!!

I'd say anyone who says it is overated has no clue....
It was BY FAR the best mod I ever did. If I knew then what I know now the converter & sub-frame connectors would have been my first mods. Not my last.....

My Iroc was an auto, couple friends of mine have autos (lots of friends actually) I am very familiar with auto's and converters, if it were me perosnally I'd rather do something else to get the car fast, converters and gears KILL gas mileage. Everyone I know with a converter lost at least 2mpg most of them about 3 or 4. It's just not my personal preference on modding a car...

What kind of tires are you guys using?
2 years ago I had 4.10's and 275 Nittos' I was able to get 1.9 60ft and 13.0 @107

NOW-- 2800 vigilante,3.23's, Hal Shocks, Nitto 315's & new trans,shift kit
My car struggles to get a 2.0 60ft and my mph has gone down 3-5 MPH and is running 13.3-13.5??? I even had some 2.2 60ft
I had the car dyno'd and it is down 10 rwhp after the vigilante and the last dyno 2 years ago.

I know the TQ helps from the launch, but what can we A4 guys get to help with the lag going from 1st to 2nd? Maybe it is just me, but when my car hits second, at 40, it shoots up to 50 and then has to catch up with itself again. Besides getting a m6, what can we do to combat this...unless it is just me. Will a TQ help with this, or a good tune...and if so, what kind. Thanks.

hmmmm..thats an easy solution, steeper gears, when it comes to pick and choose ill take a 2:73 to 3:73 swap anyday over a 2800 converter, but thats just me, but then again i have no track results from before my gear swap, but what i do know is that stalls mainly help from a stop, they lower your 60 substantially however with a gear, if you like street racing (which i wont condone) i would take gears, simply because with street racing you dont always race from a stop, gears also increase mph as with a TC you usually dont and in some cases lose some, so it comes down to what you want, do you road race a lot? or do you hit the strip every weekend

i love stick shifts personally, but i have a couple friends that were more than .5 seconds guicker in the quarter with just tc's, mostly because there 60s were greatly improved.
