torque converter question - (easy one)

torque converter question - (easy one)

Are high stall converters less streetable ONLY because they hurt gas mileage? Any other reasons? I have a 97 camaro with the hotcam kit, pp'ed heads, lt headers, etc. I the highest stall converter I can get without making it completely not streetable. Any input??

Anything between 2800-3200 is pretty streetable. Basically it hurts "driveability" because u got to bring the RPMs up a little higher to get the car moving, thus making it not drive like your "everyday driver" car.

I think you have the same setup I will have. I am trying to justify buying a 3200 stall vigi. Is that going to be a pain in the butt to drive??

i just got my setup running, i put about 200 miles on it so far. here are my impressions (opinions)
1. my idle is set to 1000rpm. when i put it in gear i have to hold the break to keep the car from rolling.
2. it feels weird under 40mph and under 2500rpm. like the tranny is slipping or something isnt right. but once the rpms hit 3000 its like a different beast, it pulls like hell.
3. i wish i would have went with a 3200 or 3600, because 2800 is a baby stall, barely can tell its there, until you get on it!!!!
but thats just my opinion.

Not at all man, you'll love it. It was probably the best mod I have bought for my car so far. Don't be fooled by my shirtty times, that was BEFORE my converter and with a bad set of 3.73s and a slipping trans. Vigilante is defintely the way to go in terms of brand.

Don't forget, if u drive the 3200 stall awhile and decide u don't like it, Vigilante does do ONE free stall change on their converters.

I put a 9.5 ACT 2800 behind my 406, and I love it. You can't tell its there untill you step in it. I wish I would have went a little higher, maybe 3000. Convertor technology is so much better than it was 10 years ago or even 5. I am really impressed and am glad I bought it.
