Torque Converter Lock up Switch Mod???

Can some one send me a link to where I can find this mod and possible to it to my 95 T/A?

I have heard that folks can pick up as much as 2MPH and drop .2 in ET. Is this true?

Also, I only plan to do this when racing, does it shorten the life of my tranny and converter at all? I drive my car EVERYDAY so I want to know all the Pros and Cons. Please explain.

Thanks for any input,
Claude

Locking the converter puts a lot more stress on them. The TCC takes a beating and the tranny takes the full brunt of the shifts (since the converter can't "slip" and absorb any of the shock when the TCC is locked).

I'd wait until you put some better parts in the trans and get a good converter before using the lock-up mod. Even if it is only every-now-and-then that you'll use it. Just my $.02

Thanks for the info...Much appreciated.
I already have a 3000 Vig converter, a Trans go Shift Kit, B&M Supercooler and Kevlar Clutches in my rebuilt tranny.
Is this Mod worth doing or will it severly reduce the life of my tranny?

Thanks,
Claude

If the torque converter was built "right", the quarter mile performance would most likely go down, due to the lack of torque multiplication when the TC is locked up. In some instances (blown or nitrous) there might be a "slight" increase in performance, but a shorter transmission life. Terry Hedrick (Precision Industries) would be one who would verify what I am saying.

This is something that the GN guys have been doing for years with some results. But those cars that get results are normally pretty bad cars though.

I tried locking my tq years ago when my car was running low 12's and I lost an average of a tenth and 1 MPH.

Maybe I might toy with it again when I start running near the 10's, but then I am already pressing my luck with my tranny with it unlocked.

The only real tq multiplication you get from the converter is on the launch (through 1st gear). The way the vavlebody is designed, the TCC can't lock in first gear. So you're really locked from 2nd gear on.

95 Silver TA, IMO you should be ok for a while with those parts. You'll have abnormally harsh shifts, which why it's harder on the tranny.

As far as the GNs are concerned, I've seen quite a few go for seasons on the stock tranny without problems. But soon after they start locking the converter to make passes they run into problems even though they gained a few tenths. Sloppy shifts, missing gears, bouncing off the rev limiter, etc. are a few and just not worth it to me. I may as well have since mine blew last year anyway. Mid 11s on a stock 2004R impressed me, to say the least.

Thanks for all the responses guys...Much appreciated.

I will stay away from this mod for now. I want this trans to last for a while but when it does go, I will have it rebuilt or buy something better and mabee turn up to boost for more umpf!

I was just curious to see if it was a good mod, apparently the Cons (for me) out wiegh the Pros.

Thanks again,
Claude
