Ceramic hookers+y pipe+bolts is $750 by themselves. $250 labor is a good price in my book

If you are mechanically inclined at all, you can do all this work yourself and save yourself a ton of money. If money isn't a factor, then go ahead and pay them to install the stuff.

What's involved in the dyno tune? Are they going to reprogram your PCM, or just toss it on a dyno and give you a print out and call that a tune?

Actually a Cam on an LS1 involves almost no gasket replacement, and you really could do it yourself without a problem for much cheaper.

Thank God for Sears and Craftsman. I could never see myself paying that much for installing anything short of a new drivertrain. According to everyone else it seems like your not getting the shaft though.

I'm a member of the DIY crowd too, but those labour prices look pretty good to me, especially if they do a good dyno tune..

all i gotta say is I'm so glad i'm working on learning to do this stuff myself lol. thats alot of cash.

Thats seems like alot for just installing the headers. I think i remember someone getting quoted at 400 for just the headers. I can't see the y-pipe and the bolts adding THAT much. Although i could be wrong.

yea there's people down here in Texas who install headers as a side job, ~$150, then, of course, you don't get any paperwork.

Re: Is the too much $$$ for a Cam + Header install?

I think the best part about having an F-body is working on the car yourself. Call me crazy, but even though its hell alot of times, I still enjoy it in the end and see much value in it. I like knowing my car inside and out and the fact that in 30 years when my ole LT1 is a classic I can show all the young pups how we used to install LT's in these impossible engine bays. Maybe its because I spent 3 hours talking about and comparing working on and racing cars with my G/F's dad the night before Thanksgiving. Had I never worked on my car I would have felt really dumb. I really enjoying listening how things were done back in the day. How my G/F's mom got caught doing donuts in a parking lot with her dads Trans Am. He said he used Nitrous on his drag car, but didnt like it since he cracked a head being over zealous and liked running alcohol better. That is the end of my Hallmark Moment.

Who does them here in texas?? Any place close to dallas texas? If its only that cheap i might just look into getting someone else to do it. Whats the downsides of getting no paperwork?
