Aight yall, Im finalizing my parts list and I have a couple last questions.

I need new tires like nobodies business. At tirerack.com they have Yokohama AVS ES100 for a good price, they these good tires, has anyone used them? If not whats a good set of tires I could look for? I don't need the best thing on the market, just something that hooks well and is a good tire. Any other suggestions?

For my other question. My factory rearend is starting to worry me, I've given it quite a bit of hell and I know the stock rearend isn't that strong. The mods Im planning are all bolt ons, the top/bottom end of the engine will remain stock. Should I replace my rear now or not? It has a slight leak and I hear a clanking every once and a while, but Im not sure if thats the rear or my driveshaft. Im thinkin either a Moser 12bolt or Moser 9", which ever is cheaper. Any other suggestions would be great also. Thanks.

Forgot to mention that a stall is in mind for my mods also, this is more for the rearend question though. The stall will be 2800ish.

 

I just bought some kumho ecsta 712's at discount tire for 107 a piece 275-40-17's
check them out on tirerack.com website. They get good reviews. I just couldn't believe how cheap they were. I haven't put the rims and tires on yet so i really can't give my opinion on them.

I use Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP (275-40-17) They have great traction even in the rain. Tirerack has them for $177 a piece at that size ( Z rated tires are expensive )

 

Don't get the Yokohama's, I have them, they are ok, but not worth the money. It's worth every penny to get a good grip tire, my Yokohama's broke loose at 70mph with my heads and cam, which isn't that much power, but still.

Anyway, you get what you pay for, get some BFG's, GoodYears, or even Kumhos for cheap performance, they won't last long, but they will be better than those Yokohama's.

next choice:

g-force kdw for i think about $130 each

 

I've heard that the dunlop sp5000 is a very good tire for wear & traction, I've been told that it has soft and hard rubber componds, giving you the best of both tires.
can anyone verify this for me?

Dunno about those but I got the 8000's and I don't like them. No traction at all. I can be rolling at 35 and stomp it and they break loose. I'm looking at the Goodyear F1 GS D3's. They are supposed to be awesome.

 

Try the Kumho MX, they perform similar the BFG G-force KD. I got 275/40/17's for 147.00 each at the tire rack. Big improvement over the Bridgestone RE730's they replaced.

 

I wouldn't worry too much about the rearend, you have an A4 and no slicks, so you won't likely break it yet. You prolly have a pinion seal leak, (most of us do) and the clunking is your posi, it is normal, but you can reduce it by changing your diff fluid and adding GM limited slip additive.
