tire suggestions
i have a 95 z28 M6 and i am ready for new tires. i have 16 X 8's. i am not sure what size tire to go with. i do want the same size in front and rear. i want the tire to last more than 10 to 15K miles if possible. the car does not come out when its raining, snowing, or even if the roads are wet. finally, i want some tires that hook pretty good. suggestions would be great. thanks
Nitto 555R (drag radials). I received 15k miles of service out of them. The center tread eventually wore out way before the outer tread. As soon as the center tread hit the wear bars I dropped the air pressure (from 30psi) to 15psi. (The center tread was bald and the outer tread was yet to get to the wear bars when I pulled them off). I would run them at 20psi from the get-go.
Its a nice feeling to hookup in second gear. The Nittos immediately dropped my ETs from 14.1s to 13.7s with the same crappy 2.3 60' (mph @ 101-102). At the launch, my car has me

I would go with 245-50-ZR16, this size is an option from the factory for a 16x8". I am currently using BFG G-Force T/A KDW's in this size. They are $143 each at www.tirerack.com , so figure slightly over $600 shipped and then install($25-30?).
I highly recommend this tire. I have had them for about 7K. They have very good dry traction, excellent wet traction, and corner very well. I just rotated at about 5K. The front tires had very little feathering/ cupping on them and the rears wore even and have a lot of tread left. I expect to get well over 15K on these tires.

I use BFG KDW but those are a wet/dry tire.. How about some nittos in the rear and some kumho escta (sp?) up front? The kumho's are a good cheap tire (you don't need anything super fancy up front) and the nittos hook real well.. 245/15/16 is the size you'll want. You could put some BFG KD (dry) tires up front.. if they're as good as the KDW tires then look out.

you guys may be telling me to get a better tire than i actually need. i will only go to the track a couple times a year so i don't know if dr's will be best for me. you mentioned 245/15/16. is this what you meant or did you mean 245/50/16? i think i would sacrafice a little traction for extra mileage considering i am on a stock rear end with an M6. i will probally get the same tire up front so i can rotate them and still get equal driving results. however, anyones suggestions are a very possible candidate with a few more people convincing me. also, any better place than the tirerack? thanks
Heres a question for you?
With a 342 M6, i bet you can rev it up to 6k, drop the clutch and roast the tires.
With that same car, and some drag radials, hold on baby, because the car will rock back and launch like a bat outta hell. You need them

you do have a good point atljar. however, the rear won't be thanking me. yes, they would be nice for the two times a year i would go to the track(at the most two times a year). for a summer driver that justs wants a little better hookup than factory, i don't know that dr's would be the best bet. but i do appreciate your opinions because you are making a good point.
I just put on the BFG KDWs and they are a super tire. I think if you went with the KD version since you don't drive in the rain like I do (please El Nino GO AWAY) you will be very happy. The price is right esp from discount tire and they will last a while.
245/50/15 - sorry for the typo. I agree with doodad, if you want tire that'll give you more mileage than the nittos then try the KD's.. I use the KDW's and they rock so I've gotta assume that the KD's are a great dry tire. Other than the KD's and the nittos I can't think of any dry only tires off hand.
BTW, tire rack won't save you any money.. by the time you order the tires, pay shipping, have them mounted and balanced you'll be paying just as much if not more that what a good tire dealership charges. Make some friends locally - that's my advice. If you buy it local then you don't have to wait on the tires and you don't have to try and transport them to the shop. Now, if you were buying rims and tires toghether as a package... then I'd say hell yeah buy those things online and save some dough.

KDW's are a fairly hard tire. Try Sumotomo's, I have HR+'s and they are the best tires I have ever owned (I've had dr's, bfg's, nittos you name it). They are quite soft and have plenty of tread (unlike dr's). I had pirellis before them and could not break out of the mid 13's. As soon as I put on the Sumotomos I ran a 12.80 first run (100 shot stock except lca's and pro 5.0 shifter). I will never buy any other tire. I plan on running low 12's high 11's on these this year.

I love my Nitto's. I have the NT-555's not the drag radials. I think the tread pattern looks great and they seem to hook extremely well in dry weather. The price 116.00 was good for the 245/45ZR17. They don't make much in 16" but the NT-450's do come in many 16" sizes
i don't believe that the BFG KD's come in my size but i am not positive. many places i am going to say that the 235/55/16 came of the z28's. i believe that these are a little shorter and narrower. correct? so you think it would be best to stick to the 245/50/16? nitto has some other tires that would probally suit me better than the 555R's but i don't know if they are worth a crap or not. my friend has some on his mustang and they suck. he has the 555 extreme zr's. i don't know why, but he can't hook up and his car is stock. maybe they work ok for you rick but on his car the factory tires were just as good. maybe he is running the wrong psi or something.
go to your local Bridgestone Firestone store and get a set of Bridgestone RE 730 in 245/50ZR16 I guarantee you will be very pleased with them. not the 910 or the 950 they both suck. Get the RE 730 trust me.
