Tire arm, or steering arm?

well, ok i got my tires replaced yesterday in the front and one side of the drivers was wipped clean of rubber...

the guy said alignment, but i sent it in, they did the alignemnt free...

but said the tire arm (or something similar to that) was damaged and they quoted me $290 to fix it. does this sound like a good deal? and is it something i could fix on my own for cheaper?

If your talking about the tie-rod end, you can do that yourself. Loosen the castle nut but don't remove it, knock out the tie-rod end with a 5lb. hammer, then screw it off of the steering rack arm.

Tie rod ends run around $19.00 and up...I'm not sure of the exact price, but they're not that expensive. You should be able to replace one in a half hour. A pickle fork is not necessary to do the job either.
