Timing sets and covers

Tommarrow I'll be ordering my new opti and water pump. I was thinking about replacing the timing chain for insurance, I have 145,000 miles on it. I've done some searches already and it sounds like a Cloyes double roller set can be ran under the stock timing cover without modifying? But then I've read that an electric pump needs to be ran with this setup??? Can some one offer some advise/clarity here please. I need to mention also I have a 95 LT1.

I believe you cannot keep the mechanical drive for the water pump because the Cloyes does not have the means to drive the gear for it.

Shoe box is right the cloyes double roller will not drive your water pump gear, and it also needs to be removed, as the cloyes will interfere with it. Also for your own information on 96-97 cars you cant run the cloyes and keep the crank position sensor, the reluctor will also have to be removed. and that would necessitate a switch to OBDI PCM. Exactly what I am doing.

Thanks Shoebox. I think I do remember reading that somewhere now. But it will still fit under my timing cover, right? I guess then I'd need to deal with the hole for the drive then that would be left.

Yeah just get a freeze plug that size, or use some redneck engineering, I've seen a couple of washers on a bolt and nut with permatex used too.
