Timing question.

Hi,
I am having problems with my car down in the lower rpms. I have changed the opti, spark plugs and wires, headers and had the exhaust leaks fixed. I now think my problem is in my timing because I did not degree the cam. The headers glow at Idle also. My question is instead of taking it all apart and degreeing it can I just get a dyno tune to set the timing correctly? Thanks

It sounds like your timing gears may be a tooth off. I would tear the car back down and do it right. A dyno tune is not going to help your problem.

I think I know what is wrong. I have a cloyes adjustable chain and I lined the crank up using the triangle not the circle. I think that may be my problem.

If that is what you did, then yeah, it is wrong.

Ok I took everything off lined the cam dot at six oclock then put the crank key in the keyway closes to the O mark and lined the crank O mark at 12 oclock. And it still runs bad. Did I do it right?

Sounds like you did it right. Did you rotate the crank a time or two to make sure the dots still align? If so, are you 100% sure the opti is installed properly? 100% sure the spark plug wires aren't crossed?

Ok guys I have my uncle giving me crap that I need to put it on the compression first but he dose not understand that putting the crank in the keyway closes to the O mark lines every thing up. At least I think that is how it is.

Not 100% shure the opti is good I think I might have screwed it up by getting it wet pulling the water pump.

As of right now the car runs like crap. When I go wot the rpms do not even move the exhaust pops and the car dosen't pull at all, at any rpm range. Tomarrow I am going to check the opti out and maybe get a new one because I can just take it back to autozone and it will be free. Then I am going to make shure all of the plug wires are good and if that doesn't work I dont know what else it could be.

As long as the dots on the timing gears line up, you are good to go. Don't know much more than that to tell Unk.

It sounds now like the opti is installed wrong or you have more than one spark plug wire crossed.

Ok I got it runing good. It turned out the opti wire from the pcm was screwed up. But now I have a new problem; some thing in the wiring. I conected the battery and their was no problem. I started the car and let it run for about 5 min and I started to see smoke comming from the fuseable links next to the battery. I ended up burning the 1 mm fuseable links and now when I turn the key on their is no dash lights. What could make these wires short out? where should I look first? I already checked for blown fuses and they are all good. But their is something wrong somewhere.
