That cover you have linked will not work. You will need holes in the timing cover for the water pump drive ( on top ) and the optispark drive.

I don't see why you would have to replace it... Unless the chips are causing a gasket sealing problem or something like that.

Replacing it requires a bit more work then just the water pump and opti. You are going to need a crank hub puller. These are pretty cheap, you can get a cheap one for under 20 bucks at pepboys or rent one from autozone. Once the hub is off, make sure you loosen all the oil pan bolts except the last two. This is so you can get the oil pan gasket off the bottom of the timing cover.

No problem to reuse the bolts. Be sure to pick up a new front crank seal , distributor seal, and water pump seal. I do not know the part number off hand but felpro has a timing cover gasket kit that includes all these and the timing cover gasket.

good luck

Edit: GM Timing cover part number #12552426, or you could pick one up used on ebay or on the boards.

GM part #10217886

When you put the water pump seal on... You have to get it over the water pump shaft. Be real careful when you do this, they rip real easily.

Start with a 3/8 drive, 3/8" socket ( it should have a taper on it half way up) And slide the seal onto it. the idea is to stretch the hole out... once it feels like it got alittle bigger, put it on a 7/16 socket... next a 1/2", i think i went up to a 9/16 or 5/8 to make sure it fit over the shaft.
