Angry Timing chain slop

Just got my car put back together with my le3 heads/cam package, the shop that did the cam for me said that when they got to the timing chain they could practicaly see between the teeth and gears on the crank sprocket. WOW, yea they didnt know how it was running like that, SO basicly it is a testament to PCMFORLESS, we basicly went back and forth and "tuned out" a bad timing chain that we didnt know about that was almost going to skip a tooth. It makes good sence now why it took so many retunes and Alvin and I scratching our heads about timing and fuel tables. SO the car runs but badly at the moment because we updated the last tune we did with the LE cam etc. Now Im just waiting on a retune after a data log showing how it runs, It is actualy idling at like 1500-1700 then dieing. when it was at 1000 before.

How much do you think this threw off the tune and numbers now that I have a rock solid double roller in there? and how bout the dyno numbers, what kind of loss do you think I was seeing.

Everyone gets all worked up over how "sloppy" the LT1 chain is but REALITY and i know that reality means little here is that FEW folks actually have any trouble with the stock LT1 chains. Bet if you put a new stock one on it is nearly the same as the current one.

I say that based on the dozens of post I have seen others make about "sloppy" cahins and then finding new ones are just as "sloppy". GM did not make them as tight as gen 1 chains, lots of guesses as to why but it throws people unfamilar with the LT1 for a loop and they needlessly panic.

exactly. i replaced mine a while back and was kinda scared how loose it was thinking i had dodged a bullet but the new one had about the same slack. i have heard its to reduce the stress on the front cam bearing due to the cam driven water pump but not sure.
