Timing chain removal?
Timing chain removal?
I'm going to be replacing my timing chain soon. The reasen I'm replacing the timing chain is b/c I think theres a small leak coming from the timing cover seal so I figured while I'm down there I might as well put a new timing chain and opti in she does have 130k on her.
My ? is do I have to take the oil pan out to do this? the chiltons manual says I do. And any advice from anyone who has done this before?
I've worked on cars before but this my first time ever doing anything that involves timing parts. Thanks.

Re: Timing chain removal?
The oil pan overlaps with a lip on the bottom of the timing chain cover. If you don't lower the oil pan, you risk riping the oil pan seal. Since you're doing this to correct for a leak, I wouldn't risk it.
Re: Timing chain removal?
yes you'll have to loosen the bolts on the pan to get the cover on and off. make sure when you put the oil pan back in place just smear a LITTLE bit of RTV around the front lip to prevent leaks. Trust me i've been there and learned that and it sucks doing it again. Whatever you do don't rip that oil pan seal because putting a new one in you make up new words as they come out of your mouth.LOL
