Timing Chain Question

Im building a built 383 with nitrous with a pretty large cam, would this double roller timing set work? Would there be any clearance issues? With the crank gear having different groves in it so you can change timing how do you know which one is Zero? Heres the part number for it, Its on summit racing.

CLO-9-3145

Re: Timing Chain Question

Now, that you edited your post, Cloyes 9-3145 is what everyone uses, but you need a vented opti conversion and electric water pump. (assuming from your screen name it is a 1993, since you don't give any more information)

Re: Timing Chain Question

Just make sure you dont try to use the 3145a version.

Thats the Hex-A-Just, and wont work with an optispark.

I found out the hard way.

Re: Timing Chain Question

I can machine your cover for a Dual Roller Timing set. I did it on my LT-1 and it worked great.

Why machine it? All you need to do is grind a little off the cover. No need to go through the hassle and expense of machining.

Does it require removing the water pump driveshaft assembly to fit this timing set.

I believe you do, there is no point int keeping it as it won't have the gear necessary to drive the water pump shaft.

I don't want to go through the hassle of modifying the timing cover to plug the hole that the shaft runs through.

Here is a picture of the shaft that will still be there after, if it doesn't hurt to leave it.

Re: Timing Chain Question

I hear ya Birdman7389, I am going through that right now. You can run the adjustable you would just have to grind down the bushing. You would adjust it with something like some needle nose pliers because obviously you wouldnt be able to get in there with an allen wrench due to the dowel pin sticking out. Its not worth it to me. I am taking it off and putting on a non-adjustable double roller. -Matt
