Timing chain options
Timing chain options
Ok , installed the lt4 hotcam kit about 6 months ago as you can see in my profile i have a 94 z28 with a nonvented opti. I totaly fogot about getting a new timing chain when i went to install the kit. That means i cut the dowel pin in the cam to fit into the nonvented opti. Now im thinking i made a big mistake not worth trashing my valve train over a timing chain i can replace for alot cheaper.
Can you guys list out my options you think would be best, the least im gonna do is replace my stocker chain, just not sure if im gonna be better off going with a stronger setup thus having to deal with the cut dowel pin in the cam the nonvented opti and getting a electric waterpump!
Thanks guys!

Just depends on how much work and money you feel like doing/spending. That dowel pin would be a bitch to extend, i couldnt even get mine out period, had to grind it down. Id say with the hotcam just replace the chain with a gm stocker. Not much stress on your valvetrain with that cam. if you had something with closer to .6" lift id say get the LT4 heavy duty or a cloyes, save yourself some money, and a bunch of time and frustration and replace with stock.
On my '94 I just went with a new stock timing set. Dont get just the chain, that is pointless...make sure you get the whole set. I think as long as you stay under 6300rpm you should have no worries. I have driven with it for a year now and it has about 50 passes down the track like this with shifts at 6200-6250. I know many others are running the same setup without problems.
