Timing chain: Did I do it correctly? *pic*

I read the directions on shoe box's site(thanks Rob) and this is what I came up with.
I dont think its off, but I read in another thread that even a tooth off will mess everything up and since its my first time I'm paranoid.

Also, how do you adjust the valves to zero lash before the motor goes in? I dont want it to be too tight or too loose...

If the camera angle was straight on, it would be easier to tell, but it looks pretty good. You can use method #1 on my site to adjust the valves. It should work fine.

i would say take the time to crank it so its easier to tell if its dead on. i did it the way you did by the "looks pretty darn close" method and ended up 1 tooth off on the crank gear, which is 16 degrees

Call me crazy it looks a lil off to me. Could be the angle but the dots look a lil offt o the right. If you brought the bottom one up to the top center the other dot would spin farther away. Again it could be the camera angle but make sure the dots are centered to the engine, if your not sure id even take a tape measure and chack, it looks off to me.

Get a staight on shot. If the crank is at #1 TDC then it appears you do have the TC installed correctly looking at the cam b/c its definitely at 3 o'clock position as it should be.

I thought it was #6 TDC when the crank is 12 o'clock and cam is 6 o'clock?

It is.

However if you only want to talk about crank position, with the arrow at 12 o'clock, it could be at #1 or #6. The deciding factor is where the cam is positioned.

Is he basically making sure the top dot is at 6oclock and the bottom dot is at 12oclock and they are matching at the teeth, or is there alot more to it than that?! Thanks--

A vertical line drawn through the center of the faces of the cam and crank should also pass through the dots. (far right in this diagram)
