Timing Chain choice....

Well I just put a CC306 in my car with some ported heads and I was wondering if a new stock timing chain would work for this setup or should I get something a little stronger...i really don't want this thing to break in a month or two....thanks for the help

The friends that helped me put in my CC306 highly sugguested that I put in a new timing chain, but I was out of money. So I went up to Autozone and just got a replacement chain without the sprockets, it was like $20.

That was about a year ago.

While that approach might work, it is not the one I'd recommended. One should always replace the chain and the sprockets as a set. I'm not impressed with the oem LT1 chain. While I'm sure there will be reports of the oem design LT1 chain lasting 250k miles, a mcuh better chain and sprocket set is the GMPP LT1/LT4 Extreme Duty set. Do a search on this set as there have been many posts about it.

Well I guess my real question would be.....Will the stock timing chain hold up to the power that will be made by my car?

Probably, but for a piece of mind and not having the stock timing set explode on you, I'd go with a LT4 extreme duty timing set....

Well I think that I am going to put a stock timing chain on just long enough until I get my stroker motor.....I already have the Extreme timing set gears....just broke my HD Timing chain and had to get one fast.....I think it will hold up to no more than I should be putting down.....Anyone think that I am going stupid for doing this?
