When i was looking up a replacement chain i saw someone post about their stock chain getting stretched so far they were able to take the chain right off! It wasn't even that high milages (but the guy did beat the car pretty hard)

Good idea to use grease as a marker. That makes it easier to grind. Thanks for the tip.

then something was wrong, bcuz Ive never heard of anyone actually breaking one. Maybe the gears were misaligned or something but I dont see how they could just BREAK esp on the first WOT pass..had to be a faulty chain or a problem elsewhere. I understand the stretch thing but mine was 100% normal and I beat it worse than someone should beat their car...almost like I tried to break it. I can see if you have a full race motor you might want to go bigger but for just a simple cam swap I dont think you really NEED anything else.

some stock chains may take the abuse more than others. why take the gamble? my good friend, Shawn97Z28M6 on this board snapped his when he had to slam on his breaks and that was when the cam/springs were stock. it had around 30K miles on it. he was lucky and only had to replace the valves. pistons made contact, but did not damage them and he went on to drive it for many more miles. a roller chain is cheap compared to having to go through the trouble of either simply replacing valves or possibly pistons.
there is no logical argument that can be made to state a stock chain will be fine with higher spring pressures.

Ok well maybe the fact that I used beehives made a difference cuz I used stock lifters too and they were perfect. But alls im saying is it worked..and worked very well, and its worked for many people I know.(not trying to get into an argument)

Are there any single roller chains that'll work on an lt1(with ewp)? Double roller seems like overkill, and I would prefer not to have to clearance the cover, also is there any interference with the crank position sensor when using the cloyes(on obd2 cars that is)?

I used a stock chain like I said and it was fine for me with the beehives spinning it to 6600 rpms daily

You could go with an LT4 Extreme Duty and still run an electric pump.

Since I have a 95 I am going to do the grind work and seeing that I just ordered a Cloyes I am stuck I guess. I will keep this forum posted.

Are there any cheaper solutions that don't require clearancing the cover but still just as strong, like will any SBC chain work(since I don't have an ewp) or will there be interference witht eh crank position sensor?

EDIT: for the price I think I'll just suck it up and clearance the cover, but still does anyone know about the crank position sensor?

You'll have to lose teh crank position sensor if you go double roller.

misfire detection only, if you get rid if it, you will need to tune it out of the PCM, no biggie since you will be getting a tune anyway(you are, right??)
