Timeing chain, help please!
Timeing chain, help please!
I did a search and came up with nothing for my situation or anything like it. First off, i have the haynes manual and it says after the timeing cover is off to then line up the timeing chain marks, top to 6 o clock bottom to 12. I would think after you set TDC then you pull the old one off then you set it like that? Also snapped 2 of thoes opti torx bolts, any good way of getting thoes out? Last thing, i have no idea how to get the smaller timeing chain sprocket off. Any help or advise?
Re: Timeing chain, help please!
Heres a post about the Crank
If the torx bolt broken off inside with nothing to grab onto...I would try using JB Weld or anything thats a tough cement type bonding by carefully and modestly using a drop to apply an amount to the broken torx bolt surface and bond it to a bolt in similiar diameter and hold it and let it dry, might want to use a hairdryer blowing cool air to speed up the process to dry quicker. Make sure you mix it correctly. After it dries, just hope that it comes off by torqing on the bolt that is bonded with the broken bolt surface.
Other ideas I have done is carefully drilling into a broken bolt and then use JB Weld to put inside the hole and use a smaller diameter bolt into the hole so the new bolt fits in the hole and after it dries for 24 hours all you have to do is wrench it off. I hope this makes sense, but thats what I would do.

Re: Timeing chain, help please!
My buddy purchased a welder for 100 bucks. It is a wire feed. However, it works awesome for removing bolts. I broke off 2 in my head. I just simply welded a new bolt onto the broken one to make the bolt really long and then just backed the broken bolt out by backing the new bolt that was welded onto it.
Re: Timeing chain, help please!
to remove the lower gear you will need to have a two finger puller. install your balancer bolt back in the crank snout, to keep from messing up the threads, then you can remove it. what are you trying to do with the timing chain.
