Time for brakes

I need to get front brake pads for my 97 z28 badly. What brand should i get and where can i get em cheap? They have generic ones at the dealership (expensive). They also have some no name brands at autozone/murrays.

My rotors are ok for now and they are proper thickness. I can spend a little more on pads because i will change them myself. What do you guys recommend for good stopping power with little noise, and low dust. I want to stomp the break and be able to stomp. At the present time, there have been a few times at lights when i stomp the brake and keep goin (usually can stop before the light though). The front pads are pretty low but the rear appear to be fine.

How are hawk brakes?

Also, is there any point in flushing the braking system when doing the change?

I think next time the brakes wear, i will get some better rotors and probably switch to ls1 brakes.

Re: Time for brakes

I got some cheap ebay rotors for $80 drill/slotted. They are AWSOME regardless of what anyone says. As for the pads for the front i have Friction Masters from Advanced Auto for $44.19. They had to order these pads since they don't stock ceramics. For the rears i have some cheepo silver stars or something like that. They were $18.97. I figured they wuld jsut get burned off anyway. Go ceramic though. Almost no dust with them.

I am planning on flushing my brake system out. I don't know that there is a point to it though.

Re: Time for brakes

Rather than wasting any money on new rotors and expensive pads why not go buy some LS1 brakes. Shop around, ebay has them dirt cheap. Me and another guy each got sets for 165 shipped. I reused the stock rotors and pads because they were like new and they made a huge diff. They have bigger rotors, plus dual piston calipers and i believe more pad surface area. My car stops 10x's better now.

Yep. I got the rotors, calipers, caliper brackets, pads, brake lines, and spindles/steering knuckles (everything needed for the install) for that price. I only have two crappy pictures on my site but you can see the diff.
