Ticking noise.

The car has been running just fine, and I noticed last week that the oil level seemed low, so i added a extra quart and all was well. I started the car and now I hear a ticking noise this week, Im like wtf? I havn't touched the rockers yet and it doesn't sound like a rocker arm.

I noticed im only getting 20 PSI of oil pressure at idle, it rises when I put my foot on the pedal but never above 50 PSI which seemed kinda normal although I remember it geting to 60 PSI. It never idled at 20 PSI however, always stayed above 35. Come to find out later this week my dipstick was loose . So I put it back on and noticed I just got a whole buttload of oil in the car now, its about 1/2 an inch above full on the dipstick .

So tonight im gonna drain out some oil and hope this goes away, could too much oil cause this ticking noise (sounds like its coming from the back of the drivers side, I can't stick my head underneath while running unless I wanna breathe in exhaust fumes from the open shorties). Im thinking its the oil filter trying to suck in oil but its too full.

Im really hoping this is the easy fix as I havn't done anything else to the car except hook up the power steering and its defiantley not the accessories or steering box making the noise.

To make it short, could too much oil cause a ticking? Thanks.

sounds like a header ticking, too much oil can cause seals to blow out but i dont think 1/2 a quart would do it.

Header ticking? What exactly causes that? It did sound like compression.

I dunno, I have a guess that it is the exhaust valve closing, cast iron is fairly good at deadening sound and thin steel tubing is not, but thats just a guess.

Don't believe thats the case, wasn't making this noise last time running open headers.
