When you open the hood of my car while its running your hear a constant rapid ticking noise someone i talked to mentioned something about valvetap?
Is something wrong.

 

Lt1's have noisy injectors. Its pretty faint but you can hear it with the hood open. Now if you can hear it get louder with RPMs, and you can hear it over road noise and exhaust then you may have a different problem.

I definently have something other then injector and normal valvetrain tick. I may have a bad lifter. But its pretty loud so if your car doesnt tick all that loud then your probably fine.

 

you might want to check the egr valve tube where it goes into the header/exhaust manifold.

 

what should i be checking for

 

on the pass. side see it the tube is connected to the exhaust manifold good. No gaps.

 

also check to make sure that your plug wires don't have a crack somewhere and arching against the frame... do the dark test start car at night in pitch black and take the hood bulb out look for any sparking... that would definitly make a tick sound. thats what was wrong with my 89 RS.

 

Make sure you don't have a loose spark plug.
