Tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick...

There's ticking and I can't find it!! It's not the injectors and you can't hear it with the hood up and looking at the engine. It's coming from underneath (somewhere near the crank pulley).

I've tried turning A/C on and off and I seemed to notice it after the MSD install. Car still seems to run normal and I'm not having any problems... Just this damn ticking!!

Any help would be appriciated!

Most likely a cracked fly wheel... When does it do it? Under load? Does it clear up when you get to higher RPMs?

No its just a constant steady tick. All the time (I think anyways). It's coming from the front area of the car. Can't hear it from the inside. Doesn't get louder or anything just a damn ticking noise!

Get under your car, put it on jack stands or a lift... Take the dust shield that covers that converter/fly wheel off... Take a big flathead screwdriver, and spin the flywheel slowly and look for anytype of crack... (Car has to be off when you are doing this, lol.) If you see any, there's your problem, lol... That is what it sounds like to me, except that when it happened to me, it kinda sounded like it was trying to clear up top-end... But it was just a consistant ticking that I couldn't find anywhere, and behold, there it was, lol. No harm in looking, right?

OK, thanks. But before I do that is there any other suggestions??

'94 Bad A Z28 - Was it a loud tick or a tick a little louder to what the fuel injectors are? Could you hear it from the interior also?

Make sure it's nothing stupid like a heat shield or exhaust

Open the hood at night and look at the coil on the driver side head. My buddy's car was ticking one night, low and behold it was his coil sending a small spark off.

check ur headers if you have them (or manifolds). One bolt might be loose. Just a suggestion.

How about buying a Mechanics Stethoscope (they are cheap) at your local autoparts store and listen everywhere in the engine?? I used it to quickly spot a back airpump and a bad injector on other cars.

My 2 cents

Well it isn't the coil, but it's actually the opti throwing off a spark. Seen from the drivers side. Now I guess I'll get under there tomorrow to check things out. Wires looks all tight and actually looked like is was coming from behind the opti
Car still seems to run fine though.

Thanks guys

Cracked spark plug wire. Guess it's time to buy a nice new set
