Throttle Body replacement
Is there any gain with replacing the stock throttle body? It has 94,000 miles on it. Also, what size fuel injectors does a 95 stock LT1 engine have and what is a good replacement/upgrade? Thanks
Re: Throttle Body replacement
There are too many variables to tell. Are you running through the stock filter? Stock MAF? GM spends alot of money on development and testing. If the rest of your motor is stock then replacing your throttle body wont do anything noticable for you. Also with your injectors. I think I think its 19lbs is stock. I'm not sure the exact size, but upgraded injectors will do nothing for a stock motor. The stock injectors will support a decent amount of add ons.
Re: Throttle Body replacement
On a stock motor, there will be very minimal gains by replacing with a larger diameter one. I believe they can support upwards of 400+ rwhp without restricting flow. If you do decide to upgrade do not get the 58mm one unless you plan on going all out. You will actually lose hp if you do. DO NOT GET A BIGGER MAF, there garbage and more of a ricer mod, stock will be fine for most all applications, just adding that as a response to the above notation.
As for the injectors I believe they are 24lbs/hr. They should also be fine unless you are adding nitrous or going big with the motor.
If your car is stock than you should look into headers, exhaust, cai, rr's.....

Re: Throttle Body replacement
You won't lose HP going from stock to a 58mm. You really won't gain much either with everything else being stock. But what I did gain on mine before adding the blower was a very noticeable increase in throttle response. With stock 48mm I could mash the throttle from a roll in 2nd and didn't really get any wheelspin. But with the 58mm it broke loose very easily. Downside is it's more difficult to launch consistently without blowing the tires out from under the car if you have an M6.
Re: Throttle Body replacement
Well alot of people who have dynoed their cars have reported a loss in hp not much but still there due to the TB size increase.
Imagine it like this: Place a straw in a cup and suck....liquid comes up and into your mouth with relative ease. Now try the same cup and liquid just with 2" diameter straw. Much more force is needed.
In stock form the 58 is not needed and can hurt a setup. There is such a thing as too much. Thats why people dont run dual 4" exhausts.

Re: Throttle Body replacement
wow.... you hear so much about this mod on these forums it get old after a while.
here's the truth
1. you won't loose HP
2. Your car wont take in more air than it needs
3. The larger blades increase Throttle response
4. It can and does add hp with the supporting modifications
5. I own one
6. It works
7. It was a big improvement.

Re: Throttle Body replacement
Madwolf posted a dyno where he lost horsepower.

Re: Throttle Body replacement
and they made how many units of these that people are using today?
who's to say it wasn't another reason that the car lost power on the dyno?
The story with the TB always changes... now you "loose" power with it?
What's it going to be next month?

Re: Throttle Body replacement
No one is stating that he will lose hp with SUPPORTING mods but he hasnt chimed in stating that he has any. For a stock car the money could be spent elsewhere to see gains.
If you read correctly I was elaborating to the fact that the vaccum effect created by the motor will be deminished if you open the hole to much. For a STOCK motor 58mm is excess.

Re: Throttle Body replacement
The car has a CAI and programming by MadZ. I have a hiflo cat and a hooker aerochamber muffler. The throttle by-pass has been done also. I didn't want to move up to a larger throttle body, but only replace the original with a new one. The car has no internal mods. I basically have been sticking with bolt on stuff right now.
Re: Throttle Body replacement
Long tubes really aren't hard to install. At least my FLP's went in very easy. At the most, you might have to unbolt the passenger side motor mount and lift the motor a little. Nothing major. For the money I think you'll be glad that you did it afterwards.
