Throttle Body Bypass???

Throttle Body Bypass ??? hear ppl say about this mod but i never heard of it.. how do you benifeit from it and how can i do it?

its not worth the 5min of your life it will claim or the $2 it will take from your pocket. Not unless you're into racing out of the driveway-

It does facilitate removal and installation of the throttle body.

Do a search. You will find lots of info.

JMHO
Dyno proven seven rear wheel horsepower gain by doing the bypass. WELL worth it for FREE, nonetheless. You'll need to connect the coolant hose from the driver side of the throttle body to the hose on the passenger side. I used the hard line running along the valve cover, so no barb or fitting is required.

Once it's completed, it should look like this:

I don't think it matters when you put a 160 stat in, which most people do unless they really care about getting the heat inside faster.

and think about this for a minute
why did GM do this (no a throttle body will not freeze once the car is started. and if it is frozen, when you tap the gas it will unfreeze. heat causes metal to expand so this thinking is all wrong..

head from heads goes to intake which goes to TB
so the heats getting there anyway.
besides, how long is the air in the TB anyway?
.01sec?
i'm sure the black elbow will heat it more than the TB will...

200* is its OPTIMAL (meaning best to run at, designed to run there) temp.
maybe if it was an al out drag car.
all its gonna do is cool the heads a tiney bit faster...

I didn't remove my TB to do this...

Dyno numbers dont lie, we can theorize all day about how long the air is there, but without a nice science background such wild guesses are not proving to be usefull, since it has proven itself on the dyno.

Did mine almost when I first got the car, hasn't caused me any trouble, but I live in a moderate climate.

Easy, cheap mod. ws6.com has recorded the gains from this on a dyno graph. I'm pretty sure it yeilded around 7hp as was said earlier.
Yeah it won't be a real seat of the pants rush but every little bit helps and the proof is in the graph.
Go for it.

I really don't think the purpose is to do anything at startup. How can it when your car has been sitting all night in sub-freezing temps? Everything is stone cold at that point and no heat is going to get to the TB in an immediate fashion. I am not really sure why they did it. Maybe to keep the blades from freezing during driving in real cold temps with the cruise on or some emission reason. (airplanes have carb heaters because of the extra cooling effect of the incoming air coupled with cold temps at altitude)

Its an alright mod, even if it picked up 1 hp then fine, I'm a happy boy. I'm sure the car they did the dyno on was one of those freak LT1s, like Joes

they did it for a while

then when they went single blade they got rid of it,,,

From what I have seen people up in Canada do it with out a hitch, in the south it will NEVER get that cold to the point were the TB freezes up.

i would imagine the TB gets just as hot with coolent running thru it as it does after the bypass is made. with the hood latched shut and running 170* or so... im sure the TB will be 170* or so reguardless.
