You will need to remove the manifold to do this, so you might as well wait and do it with the ported heads/ cam stuff.
Not true.

Brent Franker has a writeup in his "F-Body Install and Fix-It Guides" on how port the intake to install a 58mm TB without removing the intake.

Hm. ok. if he says so, but I would never port anything while it was still on my car, risking even a small chance that some shavings got in the engine. no way.

Off the top of my head, no. I've read it in many places and know it is fact, though.

because i said so thats why!! lol. dude you need to have something to back that up. i went to a modified 53.5 mm stocker and sotp said hell yeah!! it is bigger than the 52mm ports on the intake and you can mod this on your car see below.

I'm not alone saying that. It is fairly common knowlege.

And you are crazy if you think you felt a SOTP gain from it.

I love it when people say they can feel 3 or 4 hp difference driving a 300 hp car. Our butts are not that accurate. It is all in your imagination.

You will feel an increase, but its not on the topend. Because of the larger opening of a 52 any increase in throttle will allow more air by the blades. It just makes the car a little more responsive but not much. I don't think its worth $300. You could do a lot more with that much money on a stock motor (rockers, modified pcm advance, exhaust, intake).

link was a bunch of i think i read somewhere and i thought i remembered. there isn't one dyno sheet or even a quarter mile comparison (though we know how many variables are there)

here is exactly what i felt. my car now barks the 275's from 1 to 2 AND 2 to 3. my car never did that anywhere even when i had the 245's on the rear. why are you so quick to discount SOTP. just because you cant tell small diff's in your car doesn't mean no one else can.

I think Hal got it right. You should see part throttle gains because the bigger butterflies should give quicker acceleration off idle. There may be a slight increase in hp due to taking advantage of the increased airflow from a CAI increase but I would not expect decreased power. A fuel injected motor uses the throttle body for metering air only so it does not have the drawbacks that over carbureting does.
If you want to get a bigger tb, consider having your stocker bored to 52 mm. A guy on this board named Nomad does it for a reasonable price.
Holley TBs have a reputation for poor fit and quality and poor support.

I see this posted on boards, and I just have to assume I'm in the minority. Mine fits and works just fine.

Actually, if it's quality you're after, look into the AS&M TB. One hellaciously sweet unit, but priced accordingly.

This is most likely the SOTP difference that is being talked about. It is a change in the way the throttle feels, but not a WOT improvement. I stand (somewhat) corrected.

when i got my car it came with a BBK 52mm TB. my question is: is the tb hurting me with my ram air setup, or is the increased flow helping me in any way?

With the CAI and catback you are seeing a gain from your 52mm tb. The next mod on your list should be headers.
