Waste of money on a stock motor.
You need heads and cam at least to need a bigger TB.

I agree with these guys--the stock TB is more than adequate on a stock motor. (Which doesn't really answer your question, but that's my .02)

It's really up to you. I don't have heads/cam work yet, but I plan to in the future. I went ahead and got a BBK 52mm TB. If you are going to go ahead and get a larger TB, get a 52mm and not a 58mm. The 58 is for real modified cars and will hurt you if you're stock. The 52mm should give you a little better throttle response and could give you a few ponies on top end.

You won't lose any with the 52. But you will with the 58. The 58mm is just too big for a stock engine. It's having too little air go through too big of a space. Once you get more engine work and you are sending a lot more through your engine, then the 58mm is ideal, but not to start off with.

You could lose 10-15hp because I think with the 58mm TB, you are hurting the velocity of the air going into the intake. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Anyways, don't spend money on a TB unless you are going to get very serious about engine mods....

I agree... stay with stock for now with your stock LT1... if you really get into it I'd say go with a 58mm tb... otherwize just go for the 52.

there is an impala guyt hat im good friends with that gained .3 in the 1/4 with the 58 over the 52. he also gained .2 from the stock to the 52. call BS all you want, but its true, and there is timeslips to prove it. all he has is headers and ramair for the most part.
